Max Lawrence (they/them) is a Berlin-based Australian vocalist, improviser-composer, producer, performer, visual artist and DJ.

They began writing songs and producing music in 2018, revelling in the fluidity of electronic music and its ability to traverse between genres.

In 2019 they released their debut EP entitled ‘Chlorophyll’ - a chamber pop exploration of healing, animism and our connection to the natural world.

Following this they continued to experiment wth genre, exploring surreal R&B nihilism with ‘Gasoline’ and bombastic future-80’s sounds in ‘Speak In Tongues’ and ‘Confection’.

Lately, Lawrence's focus is on the intimate and other-worldly, creating textural electronica with an avant pop sensibility that channels the personal and the philosophical, the mundane and the mythological.

A passionate lover of music videos as a transformative art form, they also shoot, edit and direct their own visuals, creating audiovisual landscapes that blur the line between intimacy and fantasy.

On the live performance front Lawrence can be seen playing in an array of forms including captivating solo sets, memorable band sets at festivals (such as Gaytimes and Illuminate The River) as well as their collaborations with orchestral ensemble Forest Collective for three sold-out shows of ‘Fountain’ at Midsumma Festival in 2023. They also enjoy creating improvised experimental ambient sets with drone-like effected vocals and textural synthesis.

No matter the setup, audiences are enchanted by their unique style of movement and song.

In 2024 they finished their debut album and moved hemispheres to Berlin, in search of otherness and inspiration.
